TPIAT Outcomes Differ by Pancreatitis Etiology

Total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) outcomes in patients with chronic pancreatitis differ based on genetic or nongenetic etiology. Patients with genetic pancreatitis undergo TPIAT at a younger age and have longer symptom duration. Despite lower islet yields, they maintain metabolic function similar to nongenetic patients post-TPAIT. Genetic patients also experience better pain relief and decreased narcotic usage after the procedure. Early TPIAT consideration is crucial for genetic pancreatitis cases.
