Extended regular follow-up after 5 years postgastrectomy in gastric cancer patients significantly reduced overall mortality rates and improved postrecurrence survival rates. The combination of endoscopy and abdominopelvic CT had the highest 5-year postrecurrence survival rate. A time interval of more than 2 years between previous imaging and late recurrence or gastric remnant cancer diagnosis led to reduced postrecurrence survival rates. These findings support implementing extended regular follow-up in clinical practice for improved patient outcomes.
