Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula Increases Complications in Pancreatoduodenectomy

Analysis of American College of Surgeons data revealed a 1.98% 30-day mortality rate in patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy according to International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery criteria. Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) correlated with higher complications, readmission, and mortality rates, with males at higher risk than females (57.42% vs. 47.35%). Female sex was a protective factor against mortality, emphasizing the need for refined surgical techniques and preoperative assessments in high-risk patients.
