Gastrectomy achieves long-term survival in advanced pseudomyxoma cases.

Analysis of 120 gastrectomies for appendiceal pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) over 20 years revealed a median survival of 104 months and a 10-year overall survival rate of 47%. While complications were observed in 32% of cases, 90-day mortality was low at 1.75%. Outcomes improved over decades, with 82.2% achieving complete cytoreduction (CCR) in the later period, even as the proportion requiring gastrectomy decreased. High-grade disease emerged as a key predictor for survival.
