The study finds no significant correlation between body mass index (BMI) and perioperative outcomes or short-term recurrence after paraesophageal hernia repair in a cohort of 884 patients. Key metrics such as blood loss, length of hospital stay, major complications, and mortality were unaffected by increasing BMI levels. Notably, overweight and obese patients showed no increased risks compared to normal-weight patients, suggesting that higher BMI should not delay surgical management for giant paraesophageal hernias.
