Prehabilitation improves functional capacity in colorectal surgery patients

A randomized controlled trial revealed significant enhancements in functional capacity among colorectal cancer patients receiving a multimodal prehabilitation program. Prehabilitation participants demonstrated a 96-meter pre-operative improvement in the 6-minute walking test (6mwt) compared to controls, with sustained increases of 103 meters at 4 weeks and 90 meters at 8 weeks post-surgery. Despite these gains, there were no differences in post-operative complications or hospital stay between groups.
