A systematic review and meta-analysis of 127,467 patients following thyroid surgery revealed critical risk factors for surgical site infections (SSI). Key contributors included surgical duration over two hours, existing comorbidities, patients older than 50 years, incision length greater than five centimeters, and lymph node dissection. Notably, while males had a significant association with SSI risk, the analysis found no statistical significance when solely considering gender. Limitations included a small number of studies and insufficient differentiation of statistical measures.
