Risk model predicts surgical adverse events in esophagectomy patients

A risk stratification model for surgical adverse events (SAEs) in minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) was developed and validated using data from 747 patients. The model identified key risk factors, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and low albumin levels, achieving areas under the curve of 0.889 and 0.793 for the training and validation sets, respectively. Patients experiencing SAEs had notably longer hospital stays and higher complication rates, underscoring the model’s potential in enhancing preoperative management.
