Trauma mortality rates have surged significantly in recent decades.

A comprehensive analysis reveals a staggering 91% increase in trauma mortality rates in the U.S. from 2000 to 2020, equating to 268,926 deaths. This rise far exceeds the population growth of 17.8%. The study indicates a shift in age-specific trauma death peaks and increasing deaths due to firearms, poisoning, and falls, while motor vehicle-related fatalities declined. By 2020, trauma became the leading cause of death for individuals up to age 50, highlighting urgent resource needs.
