A post hoc analysis involving 490 gastric cancer patients reveals that high preoperative visceral fat area (VFA) significantly increases the risk of intraoperative adverse events (IAEs) during laparoscopic gastrectomy. Specifically, IAEs occurred in 29% of the high VFA group, compared to 12% in the low VFA group. High VFA was identified as an independent risk factor for IAEs, leading to the development of predictive nomograms and a web-based calculator for clinical application.
