Ice packing improves post-hemorrhoidectomy recovery outcomes.

In a randomized trial involving 166 patients post-hemorrhoidectomy, ice packing significantly outperformed warm sitz baths. Within 16 hours, the ice packing group reported lower pain scores (p < 0.01) and demonstrated reduced swelling at 24 hours (76.8% vs. 56.0%, p = 0.03). Additionally, superior wound healing was observed at seven days (reeda score: 2.56 vs. 3.27, p = 0.02) and less morphine consumption within 24 hours (4.58 mg vs. 6.39 mg, p < 0.01).
