ω-3 fish oil emulsion significantly reduces gastric emptying delays

A retrospective cohort study involving 210 patients revealed that perioperative ω-3 fish oil fat emulsion notably lowers the incidence of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) following Roux-en-Y reconstruction for gastric cancer, with rates dropping from 15.5% to 4.3% in the intervention group. Additionally, the ω-3 group benefited from a reduced median hospital stay of 10 days compared to 13 days in controls, demonstrating ω-3 supplementation as an independent protective factor against DGE and improving recovery.
