Fluorescence-Guided Remnant-Sparing Distal Pancreatectomy Shows Promise

Surgeons can safely perform a remnant-sparing distal pancreatectomy using fluorescence guidance for select patients with metachronous pancreatic cancer after Whipple procedure.

  • The procedure was completed in 123 minutes with only 20 ml of blood loss.
  • Post-op, the patient had a normal amylase level and was discharged by day 5 with no complications.

This approach preserves pancreatic function while effectively addressing oncology needs.

  • At six months, the patient remains recurrence-free and retains stable endocrine and exocrine functions.
