Living donor liver transplant (LDLT) can be a viable option for select patients with unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICCA) amidst deceased donor shortages.
- In a study of seven patients, the 5-year overall survival rate was 85.7%, and recurrence-free survival was 71.4%.
- Patients were managed under a transplant oncology protocol, with many receiving pre-transplant chemotherapy.
LDLT may enhance surgical options for this challenging patient population, helping to address high waitlist mortality associated with deceased donor transplants.
