New Consensus Framework for HCC Treatment Allocation

A new consensus-based framework called beacon-hcc provides a refined approach to treatment decisions for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), aligning therapy with tumor biology and emerging modalities.

  • The beacon-hcc system improves upon existing frameworks by incorporating nuanced clinical features, such as intrahepatic tumor burden and vascular invasion.
  • In a pilot study, expert recommendations showed 96.6% concordance with beacon-hcc compared to 72.4% with the current Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) guidelines.

This framework could help surgeons better tailor treatments based on individual tumor characteristics and available therapies.
