Predicting Anastomotic Leakage After Esophagectomy: Role of Early Inflammatory Biomarkers

Early postoperative CRP levels are a key predictor of anastomotic leakage after esophagectomy, with a cutoff value of < 222 mg/l on day 2 showing 81% sensitivity and 88% specificity. Other biomarkers like WBC counts and albumin levels had limited diagnostic accuracy. A NUN score >10 on day 4 was unreliable. CRP < 127 mg/l on day 5 can safely guide discharge decisions, helping optimize patient management post-surgery.
