In a study of 96 gastrointestinal surgery patients, researchers identified key risk factors for postoperative pulmonary infections, including smoking, longer surgical duration, and low preoperative hemoglobin levels. A predictive model was developed utilizing soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) and T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-4 (TIM-4), which demonstrated high accuracy for predicting infection risk (AUCs of 0.962 and 0.970, respectively). The model offers a tool for early identification and intervention in high-risk patients.
