Cancer blockage: endoscopic bypass cuts repeat procedures

For cancer-related stomach blockage, endoscopic ultrasound-guided bypass was linked to fewer repeat procedures than stents or surgery, and a shorter hospital stay than surgery.

  • Across 1,585 patients, repeat procedures were 83% less likely than with stents and 70% less likely than with surgery.
  • Compared with surgery, patients went home about 6 days sooner.

Most evidence came from adjusted observational studies, and results still need testing outside expert centers.
