Impact of Postoperative Symptoms on Older Adults’ Quality of Life and Recovery

Older adults undergoing major elective surgery experience significant challenges with postoperative symptoms affecting their valued activities and well-being. Participants felt unprepared for the intensity and duration of symptoms, highlighting the need for support and education. Postoperative pain, gastrointestinal discomfort, and anxiety/stress were prominent issues. Assessing and addressing symptom burden could enhance quality of life and aid in meaningful recovery.
