Comparison of Oncologic Outcomes and Surgical Completeness in Remote-Access Thyroidectomy Techniques

This systematic review and network meta-analysis compared the oncologic outcomes and surgical completeness of gasless transaxillary approach (GTAA), bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA), and transoral approach (TOA) with conventional transcervical thyroidectomy (CTT). Results suggest similar oncologic outcomes in GTAA, BABA, and TOA compared to CTT, with GTAA potentially less effective in surgical completeness. Overall recurrence rates were low and comparable across techniques.

Prognostic Value of CA19-9/TB Ratio in Gallbladder Carcinoma Patients

Patients with gallbladder carcinoma who have abnormal levels of CA19-9 to total bilirubin ratio post-surgery experience poorer long-term survival outcomes. Adjuvant therapy can significantly enhance the overall survival and recurrence-free survival rates in these patients. The study highlights the importance of monitoring CA19-9/TB ratio changes as a prognostic indicator after curative-intent resection for gallbladder carcinoma.

Effectiveness of Hyaluronic Acid/Collagenase Ointment on Chronic Wound Healing

Hybrid ointment significantly improved wound bed scores and reduced healing times across various chronic wounds, with diabetic ulcers showing significant improvement. Patients reported high satisfaction rates, efficient debridement, and pain reduction. Low Intrinsic Pancreatic Microbiome Biomass Across Neoplastic Conditions

A comprehensive assessment of the intrinsic pancreatic microbiome across diverse neoplastic conditions found very low biomass, consistent microbial composition, and no differences between normal pancreas, ipmn, or pdac. Dysplastic ipmn showed low bacterial abundances with minor compositional changes in cyst fluid, indicating an unlikely role in malignant transformation.

Superiority of Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Over Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy in Esophageal Cancer

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy demonstrates better long-term survival outcomes compared to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Although the latter may exhibit a higher pathological complete response rate, it does not necessarily translate to improved survival. Additionally, neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy is associated with higher 30-day mortality and unclear postoperative complications, potentially compromising patients’ quality of life.

Laparoscopic Omentum-Preserving Gastrectomy in Gastric Cancer improves Outcome

Patients undergoing laparoscopic omentum-preserving gastrectomy had shorter hospital stays, lower postoperative morbidity, and more lymph nodes extracted compared to open surgery. There was no significant difference in 5-year survival rates between the groups. Omental preservation did not increase the risk of peritoneal dissemination or intestinal obstruction. The study recommends laparoscopic omentum-preserving gastrectomy for patients with early and advanced gastric cancer.

Comparison of Laparoscopic Liver Resection and Enucleation for Giant Hepatic Hemangioma

Laparoscopic liver resection was associated with less blood loss compared to enucleation in patients with high portal phase enhancement ratio. For patients with a portal phase enhancement ratio higher than 38.9%, the liver resection approach is recommended for giant hepatic hemangioma, while both approaches showed similar outcomes in patients with low portal phase enhancement ratio.

Equal Safety Outcomes of Intracorporeal Mechanical Gastrogastrostomy in Laparoscopic Gastric Cancer Surgery

Equal incidences of anastomosis-related complications between intracorporeal mechanical gastrogastrostomy (img) and extracorporeal hand-sewing gastrogastrostomy (ehg) were found in laparoscopic pylorus-preserving gastrectomy for middle gastric cancer. In addition, img had a lower wound infection rate. These results support the safety and feasibility of img in this patient population.
